I plan on having a Jessner peel in the near future to treat melasma. What is the proper regimen the day of? I’ve found lots of info regarding care in the days following but nothing about the hours immediately following the peel. How should I care for my face during the first 24 hours after the peel?

Chemical peels can be done at different depths—light, medium, or deep—depending on your desired results. Deeper chemical peels produce more-dramatic results, but also involve longer recovery times. To care for your skin properly after a peel, you should stay covered from the sun, apply sunscreen, and hydrate!

Thank you for your question. You shouldn't wash your face with water for 6-8 hours after the chemical peel. I tell my patients they can even let it set overnight and wash their face in the morning. Aftercare should be a heavy moisturizer because your skin will be asking for moisture. Most importantly sunscreen; this is critical after any chemical peel. You should be using a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen for the next 2 weeks. Best of luck!
