Dark spots on face after laser hair removal. 23 year old male Indian.

Question

I recently had my first my laser hair removal sitting on the cheek area (about 6 days back). Since the 3rd or the 4th day post sitting i've been observing black spots on my cheek. What could it possibly be? I'm quiet concerned because it's on my face. How long will it last? Also, how could i possibly treat it? Thanks in advance!

Laser hair removal can cause hyperpigmentation. This can be improved with a combination of lasers, Aerolase, microneedling/prp, skin lightening, peels, and skin care. Sun protection is essential. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

Hello, thank you for your question and for including photos. Hyperpigmentation is definitely a side effect of laser hair reduction, more often in darker skin types.  The provider that you are having do your treatments should definitely have the YAG 1064nm wavelength for treating your skin type.  If they have the proper wavelength, it is still a possibility, although far less chances of having pigmentation happen.  You can use products that contain hydroquinone to help to lighten the pigmentation, but it should resolve on it's own eventually.Good Luck!
