Hi, I have an appointment in four days for my first microneedling (pen) session (I have already done 2 Fractora sessions), but I have a little breakout, 3/4 painful pimples (hard pimples) and I'm very worried that it can cause a big breakout :(
Answer: Microneedling Recommended to do micro-needling when skin is clear from any breakouts, if treated with active acne you are at more risk of infection and then spreading the bacteria; causing a big break out. Also if using acne products, retin A make sure you stop these products a couple days before treatment and then your provider will tell you your post care treatment and when you can start those products again after treatment.

Answer: Microneedling should not be performed on active acne. While microneedling can be a great way to achieve a smoother and more even skin tone and texture, it shouldn’t be used when you have an active acne breakout. Not only could this cause additional breakouts, but it may also contribute to acne scarring in the future. See how your skin looks in a few days, and if you’re still battling some breakouts before your procedure, contact your provider to see if you can move your appointment back until your skin is clear. He or she may also be able to prescribe you a treatment regimen to help keep acne at bay. Good luck.

Answer: Microneedling and active acne lesions While microneedling is a great treatment for stimulating collagen production, improving skin texture, and helping with acne scars and enlarged pores, it should not be performed over active acne lesions because of risk of spreading the infection as well as scarring. I recommend that you have your acne treated before proceeding with your next microneedling treatment. Good luck!

Answer: Microneedling on painful pimples before my period? Microneedling is a great technique for improving skin texture, stimulating new collagen production, and improving scars. Microneedling creates tiny channels in the skin and puncturing active pimples is definitely a contraindication because of possible spread of infection to the rest of your face. Please consult your physician before the appointment.Love your skin.

Answer: Microneedling on painful pimples before periods? Hi Choucha22, It would be best to have microneedlng when your acne is no longer active. Infection can easily be transmitted and you'll end up worse than when you started. Also remember that if you are on Accutane, you can only have microneedling six months after. All the best, Justin Harper, M.D.
