The skin will be quite fragilefollowing an IPL treatment. Without knowing too much about your homemicrodermabrasion and its contents, it is generally advised that patients avoidusing any products that contain active ingredients such as acids for at least 3days before and after treatment. Microdermabrasion is typically quite anaggressive exfoliating treatment and would have a very abrasive, harsh effecton your freshly treated skin. I discourage my patients from having treatmentsfor at least 2 weeks following an IPL to avoid skin injury. A light exfoliation treatment is beneficialfollowing an IPL to rid the skin of the unwanted particles that come to thesurface following treatment. In fact a really great treatment plan is toalternate the IPL and an exfoliation treatment such as dermaplaning or glycolicpeel, with the proper healing time between each treatment, usually at 2-3 weekintervals to avoid skin damage. Of course, I cannot stress enough theimportance of using a great quality SPF of at least 30 daily but it’sespecially important following a skin care treatment. A thorough skin analysis with a qualified dermatologist orskin care aesthetician is advised to develop an appropriate skin care treatmentplan that will address your specific needs. Have fun with your skin care!
After an IPL treatment for 2-3 days only gentle moisturizers and cleansers are recommended to be used. These products can be found over the counter, such as Cerave or Cetaphil. These products can be used after any laser treatment. This is to avoid any irritation or burning of the area after treatments. Best,Alex Khadavi MD
I would wait a few days after IPL treatment to use anything that could irritate or exfoliate your skin. IPL treats redness, pigmentation, and can tighten the skin. Depending on the level of treatment it is best to wait a few days to use anything that could irritate your skin. Best, Dr. Green
