Accutane 5th month 40mg biggest breakout. I'm sad and depressed. Didn't change my routine! Should I try an alternative? (Photo)

Accutane is a go-to medication for patients with recalcitrant cystic acne. It can reduce pore size and also reduce sebum production in your skin, making it less oily; and in turn, dryer. Accutane can be used to control acne, but patients receiving the medication should be carefully monitored. In terms of skincare, always wear an appropriate sunscreen and reduce direct sun exposure. In my patients, I recommend a good ceramide moisturizer such as Elevase whenever they are on Accutane. This will keep the skin hydrated and reduce the oiliness of the skin that is associated with oil-based moisturizers.

Sometimes you can break out many months into the course of Accutane. Your doctor may need to increase your dose or, depending on the type of flare you are having, steroids or antibiotic may be incorporated into your regimen too.

It's fine. Continue on your regimen. Accutane doesn't simply stop working. Your pores are still changing and al that is coming out was going to continue giving you acne in the future so Accutane is just making it all come up and out. Stick with your regimen and keep going.
