I have Poland syndrome that is effecting my right breast, I was just curious if I would still be able to breast feed from my right breast? I have also had reconstructive surgery with a saline implant on my right breast.
Answer: Poland Syndrome & Breastfeeding Assuming that you have enough breast tissue on the right breast, then, yes, you should be able to breastfeed. Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure is to try. Best of luck, Dr. Nazarian

Answer: Can I breast feed if I have Poland Syndrome? I appreciate your question. The ability to breast feed on your right side will largely depend on the amount of breast tissue that is present. The implant should not affect your ability to breast feed. The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative breast surgery. Best of luck! Dr. Schwartz

Answer: Polands syndrome and breast feeding Thanks for your question. As you know, Poland's is a congenital defect in which there are varying degrees of underdevelopment of the breast, pectoral muscle, and other elements of the upper extremity. The severity can vary widely. The ability to breast feed on the affected side will largely depend on the amount of breast tissue that is present. The implant should not affect your ability to breast feed one way or the other. Although it is wonderful to be able to feed your newborn completely on breast milk, the important factor is transferring antibodies, which will occur even with modest milk production. Best Regards.

Answer: Breast feeding after breast surgery Thank you for your question. If you have Polands Syndrome it does not mean you will not be able to breast feed. You mentioned previous surgery on the right side as well, depending on what type of surgery you had on the breast that might make it more difficult to breast feed from that side. Short answer, no having that diagnosis does not automatically mean you will not be able to breast feed.
