Can I use MiraDry on my Chest and Back?

Currently the Miradry Treatment is FDA cleared for eliminating underarm sweat and odor. Our office offers free consultations.

Currently miraDry is only FDA cleared for use in the underarm  region.  They are working on applicators for the other areas.

miraDry is FDA-approved for underarm use and has not been cleared to treat other areas of the body. New technology is being developed so that the procedure could expand to other areas of the body, but as of now it is not FDA-approved for any area other than the armpits. 

miraDry is being used off label (off FDA label) for other areas for compensatory sweating except I do not recommend for face, scalp or neck. 

If you have excessive sweating on the back or chest, we typically use a pill called Robinul, to control the sweating.  MiraDry is an FDA approved treatment for the underarms, but has not been tested on the chest or back.  They are investigating a new hand piece to use on the hands as well.  Because the device requires some suctioning of the skin, it may not contour to tighter areas of skin.  Since it hasn't been studied on the chest or back, we don't have any data yet to tell us how well it would work.  Ask your Dermatologic Surgeon what options are best for you.

miraDry is a FDA cleared procedure only for under arm
sweating. Using it anywhere else will be
off label. Theoretically the lower back sweating might respond somewhat similar
to the under arm area.

miraDry works by electromagnetic energy and focuses the heat at a certain depth, that is in the armpit areas the depths are predictable, and the structures such as nerves, tendons etc...minimal. Hence for now, all safety has been concentrated on underarm sweat treatments.
