Severe swelling following microneedling, should I be concerned?

Some swelling and a feeling of sunburned skin is very normal after microneedling.  However, severe swelling and burning is not.  This concerns me that you are having an allergic reaction to a product that was used during the procedure.  I would recommend being seen as soon as possible by your provider or by your primary care physician.  You may need something stronger than an anti-histamine. Writing from a dermatologist point of view, the experience you are describing is not normal. Many different causes, a diagnosis is essential. You should see a Board Certified Dermatologist to sort this out. 1. This could be an irritant contact dermatitis to the various topicals, including numbing creams, gel etc. 2. This could be localised pressure urticaria .3. This could be rare disorders of enzyme defects.  Bring all the ingredients with you to your General Dermatologist appointment, patch testing and simple testing for dermographism can be done, and a solution will be found.
