The good news for you is that in the hands of an experienced scar specialist this is a relatively easy problem to deal with. So, take a breath and relax. This scar is likely depressed for two reasons--the underlying damage to skin by the prior infection, as well as the downwardly tethering fibrosis from the surgery to treat the infection. Subcision, which is a quick, simple and relatively inexpensive approach to elevating this kind of scar, relies upon its success in breaking up those tethers and stimulating new, native collagen and elastic fiber synthesis to replace the tethers thereby elevating and smoothing the scar so that is more flush with the surrounding skin. The addition of a filler at the time of subcision can further enhance the benefits and permit a quicker aesthetic improvement.
