Hello! Thank you for your question. After a rhinoplasty surgery it is possible that one of the nostrils (or both) collapse. This can appear 3 months post-op like 12 months post-op.Don't worry it is possible to perform a revision rhinoplasty and use grafts to correct the collapsed nostril.Best regards!
There are two types of nostril collapse - A visible collapse, and a functional collapse. A functional collapse after rhinoplasty surgery would be noted between 1 to 3 months after surgery. When this happens, someone notices that they're breathing isn't as good as it was before surgery. A visible collapse or pinching of the nasal tip can occur typically between 6 to 12 months post-operative. Hope this helps! Dr Joseph
A little more information would be helpful to answer this question.Do you mean after a rhinoplasty? If so, hopefully the surgery would repair such a problem which is present prior to surgery. Occasionally, static or dynamic nostril collapse can occur after a rhinoplasty, particularly when making the nose "smaller." If this occurs, it can be troubling and a revision is indicated. This could occur any time after surgery.
Nostril collapse:The term “nostril collapse“ simply means the nostril moves inward to some extent on inspiration. Most people, whether before or after surgery have some small degree of nostril collapse. After surgery in some cases this may become worse. This can occur early on in the postoperative period, or may not be apparent till after several months when the scar tissue, swelling, and stiffness subsides.
