What do you recommend for protecting BA crease incision scars from uv/tanning bed exposure?

I have a Mexico trip coming up and am going to start tanning soon so I don't burn when I'm down there, I'm just a little over a month out from my BA with crease incisions. I assume your recommendations are not to tan at all :-), but if one were going to tan, what is the best way to protect scars from uv exposure? I've read that electrical tape makes a good barrier for tanning and am wondering if that is an effective way to cover and protect my scars. Thank you!

Thank you for your question.  You do not want to expose your scars to UV for at least a year, they will darken if exposed to sun or tanning beds.  You need to use a high SPF sunblock over the scars to protect them from darkening. Thank you for your question.  You know the answer--not to tan at all.  Using a tape that does not allow the UV rays to penetrate will definitely help prevent the scars from getting burned and hyperpigmented.

New scars are very sensitive to the sun and exposure to UV light can darken them more than the surrounding skin, which may be permanent.  You should not expose the scars to UV light.  Sunscreens are essential.  Zinc oxide is total sunblock.

I would suggest not to tan because you may darken your scars. In Mexico, protect your skin with sun block and sun screen clothing. A swimsuit top will not be adequate coverage for your scars. I would place a thick towel, at least, over your scars, and apply sunblock to the scars.
