How long does it take for the pec muscle to heal after Breast Augmentation?

Question

I am 8 weeks post op and am having pain in my left pec muscle during massage. There is no pain when I massage the plant upwards. The pain occurrs when I release the implant and it moves back down beneath the pec muscle. The pain fairly sharp and leaves the muscle sore. Is this normal and should resolve with a little more time?

The pectoralis muscle is not surgically damage but is stretched and partially released as part of a sub muscular breast augmentation. Most patients experience at least a modest amount of soreness for about four weeks.

This does sound to be normal and will resolve over time.  It can take 6 months before things are completely healed.

It takes six weeks for any type of tissue to heal from any type of surgery. Having said that, it will take three to four months for the muscle to stretch and look natural after breast augmentation.

The pectoralis muscle stretches with an implants in the submuscular pocket. This can cause pain and spasm. It usually gets better with time. Best to check with your surgeon.

Hello!  There are different reasons why you may be experiencing the symptoms that you are describing.  Rather than guess at what may be going on, the best way to tell is via physical examination. With time, the discomfort and pain that follows after breast augmentation surgery does improve. In the short term, anti-flammatory medications or even Neurontin can help with either muscle pain or nerve pain. Ask your plastic surgeon if this would be appropriate for you. It is normal to experience some discomfort while healing from surgery.  It can take several weeks for the muscles to settle and heal. Follow up with your Plastic Surgeon for an exam to determine the cause of your pain.

It's common to have pain on massage or pressure for upto 6months. Several tiny nerves fibers and muscle fibrers in the surgical area get disturbed during surgery . The healing goes on for 6 months . Nerves start growing back after a few weeks of surgery and they are especially sensitive after a month . That's why some points become tender and patients report shooting pains. Due to temporary nerve injury there is also numbness over breast after surgery. With time the sensation comes back and pain goes away as the tissues recover totally .
