Is 440 Mentor Xtra Mod Plus ok for my frame? (Photos)

Question

I am 5’7” and 129 pounds and had my consultation where the doctor recommended 440 cc Mentor xtra mod plus. I was not expecting that many cc’d but think the pictures look great. Do you agree?

Hello and thank you for your question. Honestly, a formal in-person evaluation would be needed to determine the best treatment. There are several reasons for this: 
1) Bra sizes vary based on the clothing store (for example, Victoria's Secret tends to upsize everyone by a whole cup size)
2) Most women do not wear the proper exact fitting bra size for their bodies
3) The exact volume (in cc) needed to change cup size is different for different body types (e.g. 32A to 32D requires a different implant size than 38A to 38D)
4) Be careful NOT to fall into the trap most women do- they see a certain implant size (e.g. 285 cc) or perhaps their friend had a certain size, and they want or request this or another size based on that. Everyone's body is different- 285 cc implants on your friend might look VERY different than they would on you. Be very careful not to make this mistake, because the goal is to find the right size and shape for YOU- for your particular body and your breasts.

Because of those multiple factors, and because it is KEY to fully evaluate your breasts in person to make a full set of precise measurements to select the proper implant for you (incorporating factors like amount of breast tissue, implant type, base width, projection, etc), answering your question really would need a formal personalized consultation- to say anything before that would simply be guessing, which would be both unfair and unhelpful to you. Also, just FYI, each surgeon's measurements are slightly different, so numbers, experience, and overall aesthetic from one surgeon aren't necessarily the same as those from another surgeon!

Your breasts are such a KEY area of your body and your femininity- therefore, you should ONLY trust an experienced aesthetic plastic surgeon. As such an expert, I have had extensive training and experience with complex aesthetic surgeries under a multiple world-renowned experts in the field. I’d recommend for you to setup a formal consultation with me (or another plastic surgeon who is extremely comfortable with aesthetic plastic surgery procedures) for a formal consultation to thoroughly discuss your surgical goals, undergo a formal examination, evaluate all your options (surgical and nonsurgical), and decide on the best procedure(s) and type of anesthesia for your specific case. Good morning!

I am a Mentor LEAD physician, and I don't put a lot of stock in the imaging- I think it is more of a marketing tool. I would measure your chest, review goal photos with you, and have you try on implant sizers here in the office to select the proper size and profile- this process takes longer, but it also yields more valuable information and a better decision making process in my humble opinion and in performing over 500 augmentations every year!

After I measure and discuss goals with my patients, we then look at pictures of former patients with similar measurements with different size and style breast implants. My patients tell me that this process is very helpful in determining what size breast implant is right for them.

While the simulated pictures look good, just remember these are simulated and are not very accurate.  I suspect that with a 440cc MPXtra, your actual breasts will appear wider.  The width on a 440 is 13.2cm and it doesn’t appear that you have that breast width.  I would discuss with your doctor in terms of the width of the implant just to make sure it isn’t too wide for your frame (width is as important as volume).  I hope this helps.

If you are uncertain about what size you want, go back to your surgeon and ask to try on sizers. You will get a better idea of the size and weight of the implant you are choosing.

Dear Amber,Over my 25 years of practice I have been back and forth with 3-D imaging systems to predict proper implant sizes for patients.  I currently do not use 3-D imaging because although the end patient results were overwhelmingly good, they were not that accurately predicted by the imaging.  There are breast sizers available that can be used to help in implant size decision making.  440cc breast implants are rather large, so it depends on the final cup size you desire and your body/breast measurements, all of which your plastic surgeon has presumably determined.  Good luck!

It is important to have an in-person assessment regarding your concerns as it is difficult to determine virtually. 
There are many different factors that go into choosing a breast implant size which will correspond with your body dimensions while concurrently achieving your aesthetic results. Some of these factors are: Implant size (CC's), Implant profile (Low, Moderate, High), Placement of the implant (Subglandular vs. Dual Plane) etc. We utilize smooth round cohesive silicone gel 'gummy bear' implants for the best results. 
During a consultation your aesthetic goals are heard and taken into account with the measurements of your breasts and the integrity of your tissue, as well as level of ptosis (sag). From here we collectively can find your 'perfect fit'. You are able to try out sizers and different implants in our office such that you can get an idea of what size you would be post-operation. We also offer Crisalix 3D plastic surgery virtual simulator during our in-person and virtual consultations to preview potential results. After your consultation, you will receive your very own implant sizers to take home with you (at a small cost) whether or not you decide to go forward with your procedure. 
I usually recommend that my patients stop smoking, take vitamin C daily, and avoid aspirin/ibuprofen and vitamin E 3 weeks prior to surgery. I specialize in the 24-hour Recovery method which minimizes trauma to the breast and decreases pain post-operatively.
