I had porcelain veneers put on my 2 front teeth yesterday at my dentist and they feel so big compared to my other teeth, they literally feel like they belong in someone else's mouth! Can these be shaved down. Or would I be better asking for them to be changed?
Answer: Tooth proportions and veneers Dear emmeaosecoops, Yes, your veneers look too big. I'm not sure what purpose these veneers were supposed to accomplish. A dentist should be expected to quantify the proportions of teeth and not just say, "big" or "small". Also a dentist should consider not just the two front teeth, but also the adjacent teeth as well as the face. For example one of your front teeth should be between 1/14 and 1/15 the width of your face measured at the cheek bones. Also the teeth on either side of the front teeth (lateral incisors) should be about 80% the width of the front tooth and the eye teeth (cuspids) should be 90%. Additionally the two front teeth are too parallel to the front of the face and should be rotated to blend with the adjacent teeth. Often these changes can be made with veneers on the front six to eight teeth but at times some minor orthodontics is required in addition to the veneer placement. Dr. Neal
