Lost shape after Juvederm. Are they just swollen right now? (Photo)

Question

I had lip injections one week ago for the first time. It seems I have lost the border shape to my lips. Are they just swollen right now? My Cupid's bow is lost and I just have plump lips with no structure. Are they overfilled? I just one syringe total of juvederm.

Sorry to hear about your lip situation.  Injections in the lip do require a thoughtful assessment and a deep understanding of the anatomy.  If you are still swollen, then this will subside.  If the volume of the lip continues to subside over the next few days, you may find some of the anatomical landmarks return.  However, lip injections can contribute to distortion of the normal anatomy if not done with thoughtful consideration of what your enhancing.  If you continue to find you are unhappy after another week or so, then I would consider going to a plastic surgeon on dermatologist who does a great deal of lips in their practice, and who also have experience in dissolving previous injections.

It is common to get swelling after fillers into the lips. It is not normal to have irregularities or severe swelling. If you are unhappy you should speak to your physician and have the area injected with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that reverses the hyaluronic acid filler. For the next injections, consider Restylane Silk with cannula injection, this technique will limit the pain, swelling or bruising after the filler placement. It often takes up to two weeks for swelling to subside on its own. Find an expert in filler injections for your future treatments. Best, Dr. Emer.

It can take up to 2 weeks to see the final result of Juvederm treatment to the lips, and the remainder of the swelling should resolve by that time. I would advise you to speak with your provider in regard to any questions in the meantime; he/she is familiar with the nature of your treatment. After 1 week, the swelling should be gone. Perhaps you have more filler than you need. If you do not like this, you can wait until it goes away or ask your injector to disolve it.
