Should Vanquish cause a burn on the skin ? I had a treatment and ended up with a few burns on my stomach.

Question

Everything I read about Vanquish was it was pain free. I had areas on my stomach that were very hot and required the technician to reduce the power delivered as the pain was too much to tolerate. I also had a few areas that had blistered/burned from the treatment. Is this a common occurence ?

We offer the Vanquish device in our office and while I can say burns are possible, they are unlikely if the device is used properly. The applicator never touches the skin directly. The radiofrequency energy should be delivered at the right setting to heat the fat cells underneath the surface of the skin without disrupting the surrounding skin and tissue. I recommend scheduling a follow-up with your provider or another board-certified dermatologist for an in-person assessment. Your burns may require treatment to help them heal and minimize scarring afterward. Always work with a doctor who has extensive experience in the treatment you choose to ensure an optimal outcome.

     Being burned from Vanquish is not a common occurrence. The treatment should feel very warm, but never painful. It may be that you started sweating from the treatment. If sweat is not wiped away during treatment, it can cause burns. I would definitely discuss your concerns with your provider and make sure that the settings are adjusted until they are tolerable for you. I would not recommend treatment until the burns have fully healed. Good luck!

Hello, thank you for your question. A vanquish treatment is not supposed to be painful but may feel uncomfortable at times. During the treatment, you may feel warmth in the area treated similar to a heating pad. You may also feel a hot spot in certain areas which may be associated with pain. Burns and blisters are rare, but the possibility is increased with sweating in the treatment area. If you feel sweat, the technician should wipe the sweat down to try to prevent burns and blistering. The panel should never touch the surface of your skin. Please seek a Board-Certified Dermatologist for a follow up appointment and evaluate the burns and blisters.

Any procedure using external energy can cause skin injury/ies (ie. burns). Best to ask to see MD supervisor of this spa/office. If none than seek in person Plastics or Dermatology appointment for burn care. Also call DOH of state of Florida to ask for guidance.
