When can I use scar products for incisions?

As an author of Scars and Scar Revision in Reoperative Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, I am well versed in the potential treatment options.  One treatment (silicone sheets) may be helpful for one patient while another treatment (mederma or Biocorneum) may help another patient. No particular scar treatment is better than another.  The scars from liposuction will continue to fade in most cases for at least one year. Be patient as time will usually be the best help, particularly in a good scar former.I recommend that the scar therapy begin after the scars have healed and there are no open areas, which usually takes 4 to 6 weeks.

Once your incisions are closed and dry, you may start scar products like Mederma or Scar Guard, or even the silicone strips. please avoid tanning which may darken your scars.
