Losing up to 100 hairs per day is not especially unusual. Combing or brushing the hair repeatedly is usually not recommended. Once patients are medically stabilized from a hair loss standpoint, they may be candidates for a hair transplant procedure.Be sure to see a hair restoration expert.

On average, we lose 50 to 100 hairs each day. In addition, it's not uncommon to have periods where we lose more hair-change in the season, styling techniques and hormonal changes. However, I do suggest that you discontinue the number of times your brush your hair daily. I also recommend that you have consultation with a hair loss restoration specialist who will examine your scalp and determine if you are indeed losing an excessive amount of hair.

Losing 15-25 hairs in the shower, and up to 100 hairs per day, is not abnormal... assuming everything else is normal!  Although you are reporting no AGA in your family, this does not mean you cannot be affected.  Based on your age, gender, and medical history, and medical examination there may be additional areas of concern.  I recommend seeing a medical doctor for further evaluation.

Hi there your history is slightly confusing. What you need to assess is if your hair loss is sustained and if the number of hairs being shed is greater than usual. I would advise you see a hair loss specialist who can examine your hair loss thoroughly. 

Dear Ofederico263,Hello and thank you for your excellent question. I suggest that you start Finasteride and Minoxidil, as they are the only two medications for hair loss approved by the FDA. For women of child-bearing age, I use spironolactone instead of finasteride. Both medications have different mechanism of action, and I usually recommend both medications to my patients. Other adjuncts include low-level laser light therapy, PRP, stem cell, or other regenerative medical treatment. Also, you will want to ensure that you are not taking any medications that could be contributing to your hair loss. The main objectives with the combination treatments are to stabilize your hair loss, increase your existing hair fiber diameter, and stimulate some hair regrowth. After those options are completed, I recommend hair transplant, including FUE or FUT. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure. Normal shedding is up to 100 hairs (weekly average) per day.  October and May are the months when humans shed the most, so it is very possible you are just going through a normal shedding phase.  Keep track by collecting your hair from your brush, shower, and pillow (and nowhere else) daily for a week and then average your hiar counts.  Less than 100 is normal.Good luck!
