How long after a breast augmentation, can I play volleyball again?

Hello and thank you for your question. It is best to go by the guidelines that your Plastic Surgeon has given you. That being said, at 4 weeks post-op my patients can start back with cardio activities gradually. Always listen to your body, and if something does not feel right, stop. Also, do not expect your body to perform at the same pre-surgery level. It will take some time to get your stamina and range of motion back to where it was. Typically, my patients are considered restriction-free at 6 weeks post-op.

Timing to return to specific types of exercise will vary from one patient to another. Best to check with your plastic surgeon for specific advice. Generally, I suggest patients gradually ease back into the strenuous aerobic exercise 4 to 6 weeks postoperatively, assuming that they are doing well and there have been no complications. Use common sense, listen to your body, and gradually resume previous activity. In my practice, I ask patients to avoid contact and strenuous exercise involving the pectoralis major muscles ( such as push-ups, bench press, burpees, dancing on a pole…) for at least 3-6 months. Usually most simple augmentations return to full activity at 4 weeks.  However, volleyball is an extremely active and strenuous activity that would probably warrant up to 6 weeks of recovery.  Also if your surgeon had to perform any more involved maneuvers like suturing a fold, etc, he may request even more time.
