Can eye drops like Upneeq be used to treat eye ptosis?

Question

I have bilateral upper eyelid ptosis due to levator aponeurosis disinsertion. I was just wondering if eye drops, such as Upneeq, can be used to treat the type of eye ptosis in question. Thanks in advance.

You can temporarily improve eyelid ptosis with eyedrops that stimulate vasoconstriction of the other muscles that elevate your eyelid. If you have disinertion of the levator muscle you can still get some improvement there as well albeit partial depending upon the amount of disinertion. However, the eyedrops over time will be less effective and ultimately you will likely require surgery to correct the issue if it is affecting your vision.

There are drops that can stimulate one of the muscles (Mueller's muscle) which elevates the eyelid.  The drop will help to elevate the eyelid for a few hours. If someone has congenital ptosis they have abnormal muscles in the lid and the drop may not help.  But for most other types of ptosis it should.  You can just try them and see if it works well for you.

Upneeq works by stimulating a small muscle in your upper eyelid and usually provides ~ 2mm of lift. People with aponeurotic ptosis can effectively use upneeq. Depending on the degree of ptosis and how much you respond to upneeq, it may or may not be enough. Hope this helps!
