Seromas can occur after calf implants because the patient can not give the muscle rest, since you need to get up and go to the bathroom and walk to prevent blood clot. In most situations, a seroma will require a drain in place to provide negative pressure and collapse the seroma cavity. In some situations, a seroma will require surgical intervention.

it is unfortunate that you have that problem . Seromas may happen (rarely) and they are best drained in a closed fashion with a sterile needle. once they missed and neglected they may drain spontaneously leaving open wound. this opening may led to implant infection and need for implant removal or at least exchange. you should contact your surgeon ASAP to get evaluated and treated good luck!

It happens, unfortunately, in a small number of patients that seroma (fluid) around implant develops days or weeks after implant placement. Tight compressive dressing is recommended for 6-8 weeks in out practice after implant placement to prevent seroma. Once seroma is clinically evident it has to be drained by a surgeon; if it keeps repeating placement of closed suction drain is recommended. Seroma cultures (due possibility of bacterial contamination) should be taken every time when seroma is removed. For all this time patient should be on antibiotics. Unfortunately, in some cases this may progress to infection and implant(s) may need to be removed temporarily. Discuss these issues with your surgeon and stay in closed contact. Good luck.
