Can I harvest the fat from this tummy tuck for a fat transfer to my breast?

After a short consultation with doctor Martin yanez, Tummy tuck was the procedure I was advised as it would produce the best results. But can I harvest the fat from this tummy tuck for a fat transfer to my breast?

Thank you for your question. Fat grafting to the breasts for primary cosmetic augmentation is still experimental and I would not recommend it. It is commonly performed for breast reconstruction to help contouring after implant and tissue reconstruction. In my opinion, breast implants are the way to go.You should discuss this with your surgeon and get a feel for his/her comfort level regarding fat transfer to the breasts. Some surgeons have success, but I have seen complications such as fat necrosis, contour irregularities, and asymmetric graft take.Best of luck.- Dr. Bryson Richards

Fat grafting for breast augmentation is an unconventional way to achieve larger breast size. It certainly is used but there are a number of shortcomings relative to conventional breast augmentation. Make certain you understand all these when discussing the situation with your surgeon.

Yes, you can harvest fat from your lower abdomen (from the tummy tuck area) to be used for a fat transfer to your breasts. You may also need some additional fat from other areas as well (thighs, flanks) to create the desired volume in your breasts. Dearab419Breast enlargement and shaping by fat transfer is one of the techniques available for breast augmentation. It can be done with the fat from your abdomen at the time of abdominoplasty. Like any procedure, it has its benefits, limitations and risks. The amount of overall increase in breast size per surgery is significantly less than a breast implant but it is an effective technique for small augmentations per surgery.

Yes, fat from the abdomen can be harvested for use as fat grafting in the breast.  The best way would be to liposuction the lower abdomen before removing the tissue as part of the abdominoplasty.  That is a principle of plastic surgery... spare parts.

Hello,It is absolutely possible to transfer the fat harvested from your abdomen to your breasts. Keep in mind, half of the fat will dissipate therefore I would recommend harvesting additional fat from either your flanks or thighs to acquire enough volume for the breasts. It is possible to harvest fat from the tummy tuck and transfer the fat to the breasts.  However, this procedure may not be able to enhance your breasts as much as a breast augmentation with implants.  As with any procedure there are risks and downsides.  Some of the transferred fat can resorb over time and can result in fat necrosis and or calcium deposits which can, on occasion,  make mammograms somewhat more difficult to interpret. Yes you can transfer fat from your stomach if you have adequate fat in the abdominal area for your breasts.  Discuss this with your surgeon.   Fat to the breasts works fine but you lose about half of the fat so discuss with your surgeon.       My Best,  Dr C
