I am a woman in her early 40s experiencing gradual thinning. I find the women’s Rogaine foam hard to apply on my long hair. Can the men’s liquid solution Rogaine be used once a day as a substitute for the foam?

If you stop Rogaine, your hair will go back to its original hair loss process. You should discuss this with your doctor before stopping it. Always seek treatment from a qualified physician.
I don't see Tretinoin improving this condition, nor will Minoxidil make a substantial difference. Yes, fine baby hairs, but not much more. You'll need to limit the tension/traction. Hair Restoration may also be a solution.
