I have no serious deformities other than my palate being slightly narrow, am i a candidate for palate expansion if i only want it to get a nice wide smile?

I am 99% sure they are peg laterals - that would be confirmed on an x-ray easily. Your idea is exactly what I would want to do if I were you - get them bonded making them ideal shape and size then do orthodontics to close up any remaining space.
Without xrays it is hard to rule out the option of surgery being the best adjunct. A progressive orthodontist will consider a NiTI expander with braces. I would LOVE to treat your case. WIsh you were in my area. Good luck I promise it will be worth it.
