1 week after mole shaved off, possibly infected? (Photo)

Question

I had a mole removed from my hip one week ago. I keep it covered and make sure it doesn't dry out and scab. But I thought it would heal faster than it has been. It is still very sore and is a little red around the edges of the wound. It is also very itchy and has a small amount of pus colored drainage every time I remove the bandaid. Does it look infected? Is there something else I can or should do?

this needs proper wound care as this is not infected is just healing.  seems pretty large for a small mole.  Best, Dr. Emer.

There is local wound infection as there is redness around it (erythema). Given it's circular nature, it probably was excised and not closed. The base is infected (colonized) by bacteria obviously and the fact that there is purulent material indicates that it is indeed infected. I would go to an immediate care center for them to start you on an oral antibiotic to help it heal and also prevent regional infection or cellulitis. Dr H Karamanoukian
