I am over 1 year post op now. I have always had a bit of a gap between my breasts and I was fairly happy with my implants for like most of the last year. on birth control I gained a lot of volume in my breasts and they looked great. I recently came off birth control so that volume came away and i also lost a lot of weight so my chest is bonier overall But I noticed the gap between my breasts seems bigger - almost too big, but I’m not sure if it was always that way? I also noticed one breast hangs lower than the other. They really looked great for a while but now I noticed how bad they look and im not sure if it’s weight loss or lateral displacement

A wider gap after breast augmentation can be caused by true lateral implant displacement, but it can also become more noticeable after weight loss or hormonal volume changes. When natural breast tissue becomes thinner, the chest wall and implant edges can look more obvious, and a gap that was always present may appear larger.
Lateral displacement usually means the implant pocket has stretched outward, allowing the implant to sit too far to the side, especially when lying down or without a bra. One breast hanging lower may also suggest pocket stretching, skin laxity, or early bottoming out on that side.
Birth control changes and weight loss can reduce natural breast volume, which may make the implants look less blended and the chest look bonier. That does not necessarily mean the implants moved, but it can change the overall appearance significantly.
The best way to tell is an in-person exam comparing implant position, nipple position, breast fold level, and how the implants move when you lie down or raise your arms. Old photos from early recovery and from the period when you liked the result are very helpful.
If there is true lateral displacement, correction usually involves pocket repair or capsulorrhaphy, sometimes with internal support. If the issue is mainly tissue thinning or volume loss, options may include fat grafting, implant size/profile adjustment, or observation if the implant position is stable.
