Hi, i have tetracycline staining on my teeth from having asthma as a child. I would like to know what type of veneer would be best to make the perfect straight even white as possible hollywood smile. Which would be better out of porcelain? or emax? as they are the 2 i am familiar with. I have just finished whitening which helped but still not the result i wanted. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks Daz.
Answer: Best Veneers for Vetetracycline Stained Teeth Tetracycline staining is actually inside the tooth and it gets darker towards the center of the tooth. Tetracycline stains are a result of taking the antibiotic while the teeth was developing from about age 3 to age 10. In your case combination of teeth whitening and porcelain veneers is a great approach for tetracycline tooth stain but make sure you get treatment from a well experienced cosmetic surgeon because you have two things to be correct i.e. teeth color and shape.

Answer: Before considering veneers before you even consider veneers I might recommend orthodontics to correct your crossbite. Doing veneers would create an effect of your having only 6 front teeth. Properly done your dentist should be able to mask out the tetracycline stain but would recommend finding a dentist who specialize in cosmetic dentistry. If orthodontics is not an option I would recommend extensive whitening to decrease the gray appearance.

Answer: Tetracycline teeth and porcelain veneers Feldspathic veneers in general are much more natural looking than Emax veneers. However, your dentist will make that decision base on your habits like grinding. You need to make sure your cosmetic dentist works with a great technician to mask the stainning on your teeth without too much opaquing, as opaquing kills the natural look of beautiful veneers.

Answer: Tetracycline Stains - Veneers or Whitening Preparation for a tooth with tetracycline stain can be very complex. The underlayer is actually much darker than your enamel. Is your goal to address the shape of your teeth or the color? If you are solely looking into the color, do some research on Kor whitening, it has remarkable results and would not involve removal of tooth structure. If you're looking to change the shape of your teeth, be sure you speak with a very experienced cosmetic dentist, based on your photos your case is complex not only for the tetracycline reason but also your bite. Minimal preparation would be very important for your veneers. The dentist needs to use an excellent lab that can build in opacity to block the dark tooth. This may make your teeth appear less natural than a translucent porcelain veneer, but it will address the tetracycline stain you mentioned. Best of luck to you, do your research. Smiles, Dr. Shelton

Answer: Thin, minimal-prep, veneers with opaque built in When the enamel is removed from a Tetracycline stained tooth, it actually becomes much, much darker in appearance. I recommend the minimal preparation veneer technique using thin veneers. I instruct my lab technician to build in more opacity to the porcelain and I then use an opaque cement used in this type of situation. This prevents drilling away the enamel which makes the dark tooth even more dark which then has to be covered up anyway, so why drill it down? Also, the bond to dentin is a weak one and the veneers will come loose easier than if they are bonded to the enamel which would never have been removed in the first place if minimal prep veneers are done. Your teeth may look brighter than a normal case which didn't have the Tetracycline issue, but my patients have been very satisfied with the results I achieved for them when they had lived decades with the dark, striped, stained Tetracycline affected teeth.
