Is tanning safe after a breast reduction?

Tanning is not a good idea in general as it increases your risk of skin cancer. Most clothing also does not block the UV rays sufficiently. Sunscreen with zinc under your clothing would be necessary to protect your scars.

Sun bed tanning is banned throughout australia due to the proven risk of skin cancer.  Its unlikely that tanning will comprise the results of your breast reduction but tanning in general will accelerate aging of the skin.  Appropriate sunscreen should be used to protect yourself.

Hi and thank you for the question.  Tanning in a salon has been proven to increase your risk of skin cancer.  So, even if you are to cover your incisions, it is still important to prevent further skin damage.  Good luck with everything!

Tanning has been shown to increase your risk of skin cancer especially if you use a tanning bed. Best of luck. I would stay covered up as much as possible

Even if your breasts are covered the rays can affect wound healing--and never mind that this has been implicated in the development of skin cancer.   

Tanning either in the sun or tanning booths is bad for a host of reasons:increase risks of all 3 main types of skin CA,along with smoking the most common cause of premature aging and wrinkles and finally as you know can increase risks of hyperpigmentation in fresh scars.Average clothing, except the special clothes and swimwear with added SPF protection built in,does not give much sun protection in general.
