It has caused some discomfort in my back, especially after being diagnosed with scoliosis.
Answer: I'm 15 and my breast size is 36F. Am I a candidate for Breast Reduction? I'm sorry to hear about the problems your disproportionately large breasts are causing you. It is probable that you are dealing with juvenile breast hypertrophy along with the possible physical and psychosocial consequences of this diagnosis. In my practice, timing of breast reduction surgery is determined on a case-by-case basis. It is not too early to do your homework and learn as much as possible about breast reduction surgery and the potential risks and complications associated with the procedure. Hopefully you have the support of your parents as you do your homework. Unsatisfactory scarring is one of the potential complications. Make sure you also understands that further surgery may be necessary in the future (for example if the breasts were to grow in size again). On the other hand, breast reduction surgery is one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform and I think that for the right teenager (enough symptoms) it may be an excellent option (regardless of the age). Sometimes breast reduction surgery is covered through health insurance. The best way to obtain insurance coverage for breast reduction surgery involves some “hoops” to jump through. The more documentation you have (for example, from your primary care doctor, physical therapist, chiropractor etc.) the better when it comes to obtaining insurance “authorization” for the procedure. This documentation and letter/pictures from your plastic surgeon will help you obtain authorization. When the time is right, seek consultation with well-trained/experienced board-certified plastic surgeons. I hope this, and the attached link, helps. Best wishes.

Answer: Breast reduction in teenagers can be beneficial I have performed many breast reduction in teenagers as young as 14 years of age. Most of them have extremely large breasts and symptoms similar to what you describe. These cases have been approved by the insurance companies after I have submitted all of the needed information. I advise these patients and their parents that future breast reduction may be needed over the next 10-15 years depending of normal growth, having children, breast feeding, etc. This should not be a deterrent, however, to achieving the relief that you no doubt need. I would advise having your pediatrician refer you to a board certified plastic surgeon for evaluation. Best of luck!

Answer: Am I a candidate for breast reduction at 15? Based on your description alone, you may be an excellent candidate for breast reduction. You would need a comprehensive consultation with a fully qualified plastic surgeon to determine your suitability. At your age, suitability is determined on an individual basis. Its important that your breast size has been unchanged for some time to ensure you achieve optimum results. Patients undergoing breast reduction are among the happiest in my practice.
