Rhinoplasty is not a particularly painful or difficult recovery; you may still have swelling for up to one year. The first couple of days will be the most difficult. I have found that most of my patients can return to work in 7 to 10 days depending upon the procedures involved. If you are not taking narcotics for pain and feel well, you may perform up to the standards you have set for yourself. If you can wait until the last minute to reschedule your exams, take that option. Otherwise, I would seek the advice of the plastic surgeon who performs your surgery.Good Luck,Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Thank you for the question! Most patients are advised to resume their regular physical activities in one week after surgery. In theory, you should be able to take an exam if someone drops you off at your campus. However, you might be a bit uncomfortable from post-op swelling and/or bruising. If you're taking strong pain-killers or other medication, you might experience drowsiness which is not ideal for exam-taking. Consult with your plastic surgeon first and consider rescheduling your exam. An in-person exam with a board-certified plastic surgeon is the best way to assess your needs and obtain expert medical advice. Best of luck!
Thanks for your question. Recovering from nasal surgery is generally no big deal. Pain is usually controllable with ibuprofen a couple of days out from surgery. You will be puffy and you likely will have a cast and tape on the outside of your nose. As far as sitting for exams, I don't think it would be a problem as long as you're able to be off of narcotic pain medication. If you don't want to take the risk, you should probably reschedule until after. For more on recovery from rhinoplasty surgery, check out my blog post! Good luck with your exams!
Hello and thank you for your question. You are likely to have a splint on and may be a bit uncomfortable 2 days after your surgery. It is best to discuss this with your surgeon, but if the dates can be changed easily, that may be recommended.Good luck with your exam and the surgery!
Orbital rim implants are usually quite lateral to where the bones are broken in rhinoplasty. It would really be up to the surgeon if they want to get an X-ray, but if there is no metal hardware holding the implants in place, they may not even show up on the X-ray. I would base my decision on p...
Hello,Thanks for your question. Tip graft resorption is quite rare. The most common scenario would be an infection that eats up the graft. Being that post-rhinoplasty infection is rare enough, graft resorption itself is rare enough. Good luck on the revision.Dr. Shah
Yes, the nasal bones can float around somewhat in the first two weeks following a rhinoplasty. The first week they are held in place by the splint. I ask my patients to apply gentle pressure, symmetrically, to both sides of the nasal dorsum to help maintain the properly narrowed appearance....
