I find taking ibuprofen helps manage the pain but my doc says it will lead to other complications. I've done some research online and some says its ok but some dont. Can you advise me and if its not safe what complications am I up against?
Answer: Iboprofen Post-Operatively Ibuprofen, like other NSAIDs, can have a negative effect on the blood platelets, which play an important role in blood clotting. For that reason, most surgeons prefer patients to be off those medications prior to surgery. In my practice, I recommend that patients start taking an NSAID beginning the morning after surgery and use that as their primary pain reliever with prescription narcotics being reserved for severe pain or at night. In short, yes, it is perfectly OK to take these medications 3 weeks after VASER lipo.

Answer: Is it safe to take ibuprofen 3 weeks after Vaser Lipo? Hello, In general, I advise my patients that they are okay to take ibuprofen after surgery. Not knowing your complete medical history, it is difficult to know specifically which complications your doctor is referring to. While it is certainly helpful that you are educating yourself, your surgeon is the one who can explain the specific complications they are concerned for. You do not state what pain you wish to alleviate with the ibuprofen. If you are continuing to experience surgery-related pain three weeks after the procedure, your surgeon might help you sort out why you are experiencing pain this far out after your surgery. Best wishes, Dr. Moein

Answer: Consult your Doctor Three weeks post-op, Ibuprofen should be fine to take. However it is always best to consult your Doctor first.

Answer: Ibuprofen administration safety 3 weeks post liposuction Hi and welcome to our forum! Ibuprofen as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The inflammation of healing causes swelling, which causes pain. Ibuprofen will control swelling and controls pain...but it is not without it's potential complications, including cardiac events, stroke, liver impairment, kidney impairment, gastric bleeding, peptic ulcer, intestinal perforation, and serious skin disorders. While rare, these events CAN occur. Different plastic surgeons have different protocols of treatment which develop after years of experience. As a patient, I would rely upon your surgeon's judgement. He / she is not willing to risk additional potential complications. Best wishes...
