I’m scared to get a tummy tuck, wanted to take a less invasive route. Had two consults 1. With a plastic surgeon saying a tummy tucks is the way to go 2. Was with a dr who performs vassar lipo and j plasma(he’s isn’t a plastic surgeon) do plastic surgeons specialized in vassar n j plasma? BMI is 27 which route should I go? I have really good skin no stretch from 2 pregnancies. Both cost bout the same..Help plz!

Answer: ABDOMINOPLASTY AND VASER LIPOSUCTION OF FLANKS. Hello 1021, It’s a pleasure to answer your questions! Based on your pictures and description, I would recommend set-up an in-person consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon to determine if you have Diastasis Recti. This is a condition that can cause a bulge in the middle of the abdomen where the rectus abdominis (the six-pack muscles) separate during pregnancy. Moreover, this medical condition may be the reason why some patients still look pregnant months after giving birth. If you have a Diastasis Recti, then you would need an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) with VASER Liposuction of flanks. Ideal results wouldn’t be achieved by liposuction procedures performed only. During an abdominoplasty, excess skin is removed, muscles are tightened and VASER Liposuction may be used to contour the abdomen and flanks. VASER Liposuction is clinically proven to cause 53% more skin retraction relative to other standard liposuction methods so it’s very likely that you won’t need a back lift to achieve your cosmetic goals. Request an in-person evaluation with your plastic surgeon to determine if you are a good candidate for abdominoplasty and VASER Lipo on flanks based on your age, skin laxity, Body Mass Index (BMI), and health status, and discuss your specific needs and cosmetic expectations. Good luck and may God bless you! Dr. De La Cruz.

Answer: Tummy tuck vs lipo Plastic surgeons have no preference for tummy tuck over liposuction, it is just a question of what will give the best results. If there is loose skin OR the potential for loose skin after fat is removed, a tummy tuck is going to give a better result. If you are seeing a doctor who does liposuction but not able to offer tummy tucks, they will be motivated to offer only what they do. Since plastic surgeons do both, they will steer you toward what is best for your specific needs. There is no version of liposuction (VASER, "smart lipo" etc) that tightens the skin nearly as much as a tummy tuck.
