Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started. Getting rid of a scar on your face can be a relatively straight forward procedure. The caveat to this is, is you need to have appropriate expectations. It is almost impossible to completely remove or hide a scar however the goal is to reduce to the point where you can barely notice it. There are numerous methods to do this. I will start off with some simple methods and then progress to more advanced methods1. fillers - Using something like a Filler can help mask the scar as it fills in the depressed spots. These can work great for some scars that are deep, but not for raised scars. The other issue, is that it is temporary. 2. Steroid injections - Injecting steroids into scars can help flatten scars and in some people this can be dramatic. The problem is, it can be unpredictable, it can thin the skin, you may need multiple treatments and in darker skin it can cause discoloration. 3. Non-ablative lasers - These are lasers that do not remove skin, but rather heat the skin causing it to form new collagen. Again, this can have dramatic results in some people. 4. Ablative Lasers - This would be the most aggressive laser treatment and you can expect some downtime. This basically removes and burns skin but the results again can be dramatic. 5. Surgery - If you surgically remove the scar, you obviously end up with a new scar, however sometimes we can use techniques to hide the scars or combine them with other treatments. So obviously, there are great options. Dr James P. Bonaparte, MD, MSc, FRCSCOtolaryngology - Head and Neck SurgeryFacial Plastic and Reconstructive SurgeryOttawa, Ontario, Canada
The first thing thatyou do is to consult with a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon inyour area to determine the best options for you. It is hard to tell from thephoto, but there appears that there is a raised component to the scar. If thereis, steroid injections and silicone gel sheeting may be appropriate to lessenits appearance. You can consider laser therapy to the area – the fractionallasers can work well here but some of the eyebrow may be lost in the shortterm, so you need to be aware of that. So go learn your options and see whatwill work best for you.
