Black woman 15 years post op breast reduction surgery - what can i use for non-surgery scarring? (photos)

My doctor suggestions use mederma scarring gel which did nothing, then we tried steroid injection it did flatten the raised skin from aeorla thats it, I still have raised skin on left and right side where the incisions were cut, I have been to 3 different doctos amd they want to do surgery but I want to know what can I do without surgery? Is it to late because it is been 15 years?

Thank you for your question.  I understand that you don't want surgery, but you've been to three doctors who have examined you and recommended that as a treatment, and you've already tried the nonsurgical things that haven't helped.  Sometimes the answer to a problem isn't the answer we want, but that's still the best answer.  I would stick with a doctor you trust and follow their recommendations.Best of luck,Dr. Dan KrochmalMAE Plastic SurgeryNorthbrook, IL

It appears that the skin that is discolored has done so after being open wound that is secondarily healed. This scan, unfortunately does not have the same ability to tolerate lasers that would remove the color like normal skin does. I would agree with what your other physicians have said and that starting over and doing a reduction of the bottom portion of the breast with redoing all of your scars would be your best option. With your propensity to form thicker scars, we have a protocol in our office where starting in two weeks a laser is used to make microscopic holes into the scar in which medications can be placed to to limit scarring.
