Did lip filler cause this? How to fix it? (Photo)

Question

2 years ago I got lip filler (1 ml of juvedarm). I’ve had a permanent moustache look since. My lips have gone back to normal but I still have this above my lip (there is no discoloration of skin.) is this from filler traveling above my lip or is this from something else? How do I get rid of it? It’s been 2 years since I originally got the lip filler

Hi @Generous438481! This looks like lip filler migration above the vermillion border. I recommend dissolving the product with Hylenex. Best of luck to you!

Thank you for your question. The darkness you are seeing is caused by a shadow from your lip (white part, just above your red lip) having some fullness. Though it is not common for lip filler to last 2 years, it could still be present and contributing. I recommend consultation with a well-experienced injector for an in-person examination and to discuss whether It may be beneficial to try to dissolve that area with Hylenex, in case there is some filler present. Thanks for your question and sharing your photos. This is certainly possible with Juvederm migrating in your lips causing the fullness above your vermilion border. I would request you find photos of your lips prior to getting filler to directly compare what your lips used to look like. The way to fix migrated filler like Juvederm is to dissolve it with hyaluronidase. I recommend you see a board certified doctor to help improve your migrated filler.

Lip fillers can stay in your tissues much longer than you think. Though you lost the effect of the filler inside your lip after two years some of it could have migrated or even originally placed into that area above the lip. I would recommend for you to go see a cosmetic surgeon who can potentially dissolve that little bit of filler above your lip.
