How can a young woman get rid of deep nasolabial folds/smile lines from being expressive as an actress? (Photo)

I am a 24 year old actress/singer/model and would like to get rid of my smile lines WITHOUT effecting my ability to sing well. I fear that any sort of filler would numb or tighten the muscles I use to sing. If this is relevant, I am German and believe that I genetically have thick skin and a lot of muscle tone. Is there a solution for me, or is this just a result of genetics and smiling too much?

I suggest seeing an expert in fillers, as there is a combination of things that can be done subtly.  There are many options for deep lines, including things more long term but a formal consultation is needed.  Often we are looking to fill around the lines to have them lift and contour, this gives a more natural apperance, especially for someone in the spot light.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Hi Amanda, no need to worry about dermal fillers affecting your ability to sing.  Outside of the initial swelling, the injections would have no effect other than to help you feel better about the visibility of the fold.  We like Restylane, Perlane or Radiesse for your concerns and duration can be 6-12 months depending on the product used and the amount. This will give you a nice reduction in the smile lines and is totally safe, it will not affect your ability to sing at all. Thank you for your question.  The problem you are presenting with can be treated ideally with a number of injectable fillers.  The first fillers that come to mind are the family of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane products.  Provided you find a physician injector who is well trained and reputable, they should be able to assess your problem and provide you with a good solution by treating those lines directly or perhaps adding more volume to the cheeks as well as your nasolabial folds.  In the right hands, you shouldn't have a post-treatment problem with tight or numb muscles impairing your ability to sing. Best of luck to you!

You would do well with Voluma or fat injections.  A properly placed filler or fat would fill in the NLF and won't affect your singing.  We have a subspecialty with singers and performers and have done this many times with singers of all different genres.  Best wishes.
