Suture or scar tissue popping after massage face lift 6 months post op?

Hi! I had dpfl 6 months ago and I still have lump/indent, hardness along the internal smas to deep layer entry site (from cheek to jaw).I did had a hematoma but evacuated.i also have some tether lumps on my neck coz I had a seroma on my neck at thirdweek.Went back to my doctor and he injected 5fu and suggested massage. I used more force last night and heard popping along the tightness. I do feeling softer afterwards tho. Am I doing any harm to the internal sutures or just scar tissue releasing.

Yes you may have some scarring after a hematoma and or seroma. More than likely its scar tissue that you are feeling and hearing. Massage , 5FU are great I would also add ultrasound to help soften things up. I hope this helps!

Thank you for your question. It is not uncommon to have firm, often rubbery lumps after facelift surgery. Sometimes in the area you mention, it can be the suture that holds the SMAS up. If it is a long term absorbable suture, it will eventually dissolve. If it is a permanent suture, it will obviously remain. In any case, at this point the SMAS has healed to itself and even if you heard a popping, it shouldn't drop. The 5FU, along with steroid injections, can speed the softening of the scar tissue, but it takes time. I would definitely keep in touch with your surgeon

Thank you for your question, it will most likely be scar tissue you can hear as it is softening.  Please do return to your surgeon to have regular follow ups.  All The Best
