True infection in buttock implants is much rarer than most people think, always provided the implants are placed correctly of course.Fever, purulent discharge and high leucocyte count would be the major symprtoms of true infectionTo answer your question I think it is even more important to clarify what is NOT infection: in the absence of fever and high leucocyte count discharge alone DOES NOT mean infection. Later discharge after buttock implants with yellowish discharge form the wound is not totally uncommon and is in 99%of cases due to seroma. It is not infection, that is important to know becuase the most common cause of "false alarm".
Butt implant infections have the same signs and symptoms as any other implant infections, ie breast implants. They are characterized by pain, redness, and drainage from the area. Avoidance by good operative technique and vigilant following of post operative rules is best. If an infection does occur, oral or IV antibiotics may be used. A lot of times the infection results in having to have the implant removed. Talk with your operating surgeon and discuss your concerns.
contact your surgeon if you are experiencing a fever, chills, significant swelling on one side, oozing from the incision, if the buttock is warmer to the touch than the rest of the body and more painful than the first 48 hours of your recovery.
Buttocks implant infection can result and is characterized by increasing pain, swelling, and redness of the buttocks cheek; typically it will be unilateral (one sided). This will be associated with opening of your incision line and extrusion of your implant. To save your implant, you need vigilant local wound dressings and IV antibiotics.
