Although these procedures can be safely combined, it really depends on what is going to be done with the facial bones. If your bones need to be realigned and your teeth wired shut, I would not perform a rhinoplasty at the same time. If you just need those bones shaved down a bit, the procedures can be safely combined.
It may be safe to have all of the above procedures together. The challenge in my opinion is to coordinate the changes all at one time. Good luckand be safe.John T.Nguyen, MD, FACS, FICSDouble BoardCertified Plastic Surgeon
Surgeries on the upper and lower jaw that involve moving the bones (orthognathic surgery) should be performed separately from a rhinoplasty. Moving the maxilla and the mandible helps restore facial harmony and provides a foundation for the nose. Once the maxilla and mandible are set in their new positions the facial balance can be reassessed and an outpatient rhinoplasty procedure can then be performed.
It is safe (medically) to undergo all of the above surgeries. However, aesthetically it can be hard to judge the results of one procedure and doing a second one at the same time. Probably the best approach is to do the jaw surgery first and let it heal. Then it is easier to assess the extent of rhinoplasty needed. RegardsDr. J
A Genioplasty surgery augments a small chin and can also lessen a prominent chin. A genioplasty surgery involves a small incision inside the mouth through which the chin can be reshaped and moved into a more aesthetic position. Rhinoplasty can be performed at the same time with very good results. However, rhinoplasty is not recommended at the same time as orthognathic surgery requiring movement of the maxillary (upper jaw) bone.
The facial sculpting procedures you are looking for can be performed in an outpatient setting in one day. The swelling that follows ultimately may take weeks to resolve. This is independent of the number of procedures performed in one setting. Look for a craniofacial plastic surgeon in your area for an in office consultation.
It is very common, particularly in Asian patients, to undergo nose, cheek and jawline reshaping procedures during a single surgery. This is perfectly safe with the greatest side effects being the prolonged swelling an time it takes to get to the final result.
Upper and lower jaw surgery are performed usually at the same time on the mandible and the maxilla by an oral surgeon as an inpatient procedure at a hospital. Expect at least 1-2 days overnight stay in the hospital. A rhinoplasty as performed by a facial plastic surgeon/ plastic surgeon as an outpatient procedure. The jaw surgery and rhinoplasty surgery should be staged at least a few months apart.
I would recommend having a Rhinoplasty after your jaw reduction and malar reduction has healed for a number of months. At this point, you and your surgeon can better evaluate the changes in your nose you wish to achieve.
Chin reduction can be done by a variety of techniques, either intraoral or submental approaches. Each chin reduction approach has its own advantage and disadvantages. When only needing a near pure vertical chin reduction, an intraoral wedge reduction approach can be used. The squareness of the...
It would be highly unusual that anyone would need as much as 1.5 cms of vertical bone reduction of the chin or jawline. Most patients way overestimate how much bony change they actually need and where along the jawline they need it done. But for the sake of discussion, the limiting factor of...
Chin reduction is probably reasonable, but a physical exam would help make this determination. Bony and soft tissue management are probably both necessary.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
