In my country some docs say that people with high myopia (-5) cannot have rhinoplasty as it will make the vision much worse. Is this reality? I am tslking about fixing a high bridge nose, making it lower. Please see the photo.
Answer: Rhinoplasty and myopia Dear Ann555444,There should be no problem for a person who has high myopia to get rhinoplasty done. The only concern would be not being able to wear glasses after the surgery, yet there are glasses that can fit around the head to accommodate for this problem. Best regards,Nima Shemirani

Answer: Naah. Working on the nose won't change the vision at all. From the small photo that you submitted, you should understand that your nose requires advanced techniques, techniques that most plastic surgeons cannot handle. Be sure to read the section in my "Web reference" link on how to stay out of trouble while searching for a rhinoplasty surgeon. You should only have surgery if you are able to make yourself very confident in your surgeon's skills. I usually make computer morphs when I'm answering a RealSelf question, to show the changes that are possible for your nose with a rhinoplasty. For example see this page:FacialSurgery.com/RealSelf/RealSelf_Morphs.html But unfortunately the photo you submitted isn't good enough for making morphs. At the *very* bottom of the Web reference page is a link to instructions on taking photos that are comprehensive and useful for online consultations like this, in case you'd like a more complete evaluation.

Answer: Rhinoplasty with myopia? I have never heard of this being a contraindication for rhinoplasty. You should have no problem with an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon.

Answer: Motherland We all love our home land and country, it is our roots... so don't change the country, just change the source of surgical advice, be it in your country or elsewhere.Yours is an apparently easy nose, however... did any of your adivsors notice you have a poorly supported or inverted tail of the laterar cura leading to a congenitally aesthetically pinched nose and, likely too, a funcionally collapsed nasal valve to strong inflow breathing? I recommend a bit of grafting at that hollow area, will not take long time and will address both, the funcional and aesthetic, issues.

Answer: Myopia and rhinoplasty There are no contraindications to rhinoplasty based on the degree of nearsightedness. Changing the dorsal profile does not worsen myopia or change the vision. Seek out an in-office consultation with an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon to discuss your concerns. Best wishes!
