I am planning my calf implant surgery (on inner and outer calf muscles). I have consulted with several plastic surgeons and was confused by different suggestions about the length of calf implant. How precisely shall calf implant’s length be equal the lengths of my inner and outer muscles? Can they be installed not on the back of the calf but on the sides to give better look from front and back? Thank you.
Answer: Calf implant sizing and positioning Because the calf implants need to be placed under the tough fibrous lining of the actual inner and outter calf muscles, it is not advised to position them off to the sides beyond the limit of the native muscle. If by chance this is attempted, the implants are very likely to shift, move and migrate over time into unsightly abnormal positions.

Answer: Calf implants Calf implants are a very safe and effective means of enhancing or restoring the natural appearance of the calf muscles. Specifically, the muscles that are augmented are the medial and lateral heads of the Gastrcnemius muscles. The surgery uses soft, solid, sterile implants of various shapes and sizes which are specifically designed for calf implantation. The implants are placed under the tough covering of the muscles known as the fascia. Consequently, the implants must "fit" into these muscles and must be customized for the individual. Depending on the condition being treated, the degree of symmetry, and the preoperative size of the calf muscles, will determine whether one or two implants will be necessary for each calf, and the overall size and shape of the implants required.Placing the implants outside of the muscles or in adjacent tissues will result in migration or deformity of the implants and should be discouraged.Good luck with your calf augmentation surgery!

Answer: Calf Implants The length of the calf implant should not exceed the existing length of the gastrocnemius muscle which is well illustrated when you stand on your toes. The implants can really only be placed over the main body of the muscle not to the sides. This is due to the tightness of the subfascial pocket. While every effort is made to place them as lateral and medial as possible on each side of the calfs, it is not possible to place them just on the sides.

Answer: Length of calf implant? Hello and thank you for your question! The implant needs the protection of the muscle. If it is placed sideways it will be too exposed and sometimes that can lead to complications. The length can be adjusted depending on your size. You can have a customized implant, however in most cases the intention of the implant is to fill the higher pole of the inferior leg, that way it looks more muscular. but having volume in the side or in the inferior part of the leg, may lead to complications. Please consult a board certified plastic surgeon for further advice and the best, safest results.Good luck!
