2 weeks p.o. septo/rhinoplasty. Splints being taken out in 3 days. My nose is still swollen around the sides. Advice? (photos)

Thanks for the question and photos. The Doyle splints inside the nose can certainly make the nose appear bigger at this stage, especially the sides of the tip and supratip. Also, there’s still a lot of post-surgical swelling at two weeks. Ask your surgeon about nighttime taping and perhaps a Kenalog injection in 1-2 weeks. I find both interventions helpful to reduce early swelling. Hang in there!Dr. Mehta

Thank you for your question. Typically, the initial swelling after nose surgery subsides within two to three weeks.  However, residual swelling, especially in the tip of the nose, can take about a year to resolve as the contour refines. Swelling can also vary through the day, being more prominent in the morning. Hopefully when you get the splints removed the appearance of the nose will go down a bit and will continue to do so over the next several months. Best of luck to you!
