I have finasteride (propecia) side effect. 6 Weeks on 0.5mg, prev. took 0.25mg for 2 weeks. Advice needed Please.

Question

For the past 6 weeks I have been taking 0.5mg ED and noticed that I get spontaneous erections less frequently, my erections feel 'softer', it's generally more difficult to get a full erection, I seldom get NPT now whereas I got it very often before. I want to maintain and regrow my hair. Mild thinning and miniturization at the hairline and crown. What's your advice for me in this case? If I carry on taking finasteride do you think that these sexual side effects will eventually go? Many thanks.

This needs an in-person evaluation. I suggest seeing a hair loss expert now to go over your condition, test results and provide you information about your best treatment options. There are great non-invasive options like prp/progesterone which can help with hair regrowth and/or hair transplantation. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

I often recommend that a person who has sexual side effectts reduce their dose to one pill every 4th days for 3 weeks and if that solved the problem, inclrease the dose to 1 pill every three days and then again wait a full 3 weeks and then increase the dose to one pill every second day and stay on that dose if the side effects to not appear.
