Fraxel cannot cause atrophy of fat or premature aging, it only gives improvement to the skin. I suggest you see an expert for an evaluation. Best, Dr. Emer.
The Fraxel lasers are know to stimulate collagen. There are some online forums where people have claimed that laser treatments such as Fraxel or laser and light based treatments have caused atrophy and skin sagging. There is no scientific evidence to suggest that this is the case. I have never heard any colleagues discussing such complications. However, when these devices improve the color, tone, and texture people might notice things that had always been there or are natural signs of aging unrelated to the laser treatment.
Fraxel is a tried and true laser used to laser resurface the skin. The most recent version is called the Dual and has 2 wavelengths, 1550 and 1927. The 1550 is mainly for scars, deeper wrinkles, and pigmentation. The 1927 is mainly for pigment, precancerous lesions, and fine lines. Collagen is stimulated with these laser. See link for a full treatment video.
There is no evidence FRAXEL will negatively impact the skin I such a manner. It creates collagen will may help laxity of the skin but certainly not contribute to it.
