What is the difference between Fraxel Re:pair and SmartXide Dot C02 laser?

What is the difference between these 2? I think Smartxide Doc & Fraxel Repair are both ablative fractionated lasers. Is there any difference besides manufacturer? Also, what pain options are usually given with a CO2 laser treatment - eyes v full face? I had my lower eyelids done w/ only topical, b/c doctor said injections of lidocaine would increase swelling. What is normally used for full face? Do you ever administer IV sedatives or is it mostly done with injections to the face? Thanks.

I've used the DOT laser for a number of years with nice results and minimal complications.  For numbing, I typically use topical numbing cream and we blow cold air at the skin during the laser treatment.  Around the mouth I often give local nerve blocks. It's not necessary to use IV sedation. I don't have personal experience with the Fraxel Repair but I believe that it penetrates deeper and requires more pain control with a more intense recovery.Best,Dr. Ort

Technology and advancement in lasers. Now, Fraxel RePair is still a good CO2 laser, I personally don't like it because 1. Tip consumable that needs to be passed to the patient. Tips cost between $200- $300 USD. Totally unnecessary charge 2. Pulse stack or over lap required in normal mode. This means longer recover. Advantage of Fraxel - in R1 /2 mode its a very quick laser to lay down high density CO2. Personally only use this laser for neck - décolletage due to the speed.
