Is scalpel removal the best method for a mole on my face? (Photo)

I've had a mole on my left cheek since a young girl. As I'm getting older I am disliking it more and more. I would like to have it removed but am apprehensive about scarring. What is the best method for mole removal?!?!

Your options for mole removal are complete excision vs shave excision. Complete excision uses local anesthesia in the area, then using a scalpel, the lesion is removed and one or two sutures are placed, these sutures are usually removed by 7 days, after which you will care for the wound. Shave excision will remove the protruding part of the mole, making it appear flatter. Cosmetically both options will look better than what you have and it will be easier to apply make up or coverup to the area camouflage any potential scar.

In general, a raised mole on the cheek could be shaved off to produce the least amount of scarring.  It is possible that some pigment could remain though.  Excising the mole would remove it completely, but would require sutures to close the wound.  I would recommend shaving the mole to see how it heals.  If there is still some pigment that bothers you, it could always be excised later.

I think a complete excision would be the best option but you will find differing opinions. A shave excision can also work but there may be some scar irregularity or pigmentation remaining. A surgical excision will remove the entire mole while usually leaving a very acceptable scar. There is no way to remove that lesion with no risk of any scarring. I would see someone in person so they can give you more specifics after an examination. Best of luck
