When is it okay to kiss after septoplasty?

Okay to kiss/make out after septoplasty? Has been 8 to 10 days, during kissing a nose to nose tap does elicit a dull pain. Will these slight bumps ruin the work done internally, or these light taps are not detrimental? No redness or swelling occurred.

Hello and thanks for your question. I usually tell patients to go with their gut instinct. If you feel uncomfortable doing something after surgery, don't do it. Anything that comes into contact with your nose can irritate the healing process. However, I don't think kissing led to any permanent damage. I recommend visiting a board-certified facial plastic surgeon and attending all follow-up appointments for optimal healing and results.

Thank you for your question. In general I tell my patients that if doing something after surgery causes pain that is your body giving you warning signals to stop. I would suggest that if kissing and making out is causing you discomfort, and especially if you are having contact with your newly reconstructed nose I would suggest that you refrain. With that being said it is unlikely that you have caused any damage and will have no sequela from the light taps. I would recommend discussing all the limitations with your Plastic Surgeon.
