Swelling and unnaturalness 7 weeks after septoplasty. Will this feeling go away?

My left nose still feels swelled and unnatural 7 weeks after septoplasty. Air flows are great but would this feeling of swelling goes away? I also have lots of mucus produced that seems to be trapped in the back of left nose.

Hello, thank you for sharing your experience and I’m sorry to hear that you're experiencing discomfort after your Septoplasty. In my experience, significant swelling is common following a Septoplasty. Your nose heals gradually following this procedure, each side healing at a different rate, with full results to be expected after a year's time. Everyone heals differently. Make sure to see your board-certified facial plastic surgeon for a follow-up appointment so you heal optimally. Good luck!

Hi!  Thank you for your question.Yes, still having significant swelling seven weeks out from a Septoplasty is very normal.  Remember that each side for your nose will not heal at the same rate, which is why the left side may still be more swollen than the right.  You may also still feel numbness and tingling in your nose at this point.  It can take up to a year for swelling in the nose to completely subside.  The unnatural feeling will decrease with time, as well.  I would say that at about three months post-op patients start to feel a bit more "normal."  Remember though, everyone heals at a different rate so these are just estimates of time. Continue your scheduled post-operative appointments with your surgeon and best of luck in the healing process!
