3.5 weeks ago I had tear trough fillers. My eyes bruised considerably and after the bruising went away my eyes look worse than before. The left eye has 2 ridges which can look blue, surrounded by a swollen/over filled eye bag. The right eye is also not right. I have an appointment to see the clinic this week and they informed me that it sometimes takes 3 months to settle? They were very hesitant to also discuss using the dissolving agent to resolve the issues. Can this be fixed?
Answer: Unhappy with Tear Trough Injections (Volbella, Restylane, Belotero)--reverse with hyaluronidase If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Keep in mind, a combination approach will give the most improvement. Fillers, lasers, and microneedling/PRP can improve under the eyes. My patients try to get non surgical treatments to avoid surgery. We use PRP and stem cells there often. I suggest consulting with an expert to develop a treatment plan best suited for your short and long term goals. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Results of tear trough filler can be improved by adding volume to the cheek, or dissolving and starting all over again Thank you for your question. You submitted a photo describing in detail issues you have after undergoing tear trough filler three and a half weeks prior. You also state the clinic was hesitant to use dissolving agent to resolve this concern. In my practice, I frequently see patients who have had hyaluronic acid fillers placed in the tear trough and cheek and request that the materials be dissolved. I’m Dr. Amiya Prasad. I’m a Board-certified cosmetic surgeon and Fellowship-trained oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgeon. I have been in practice in Manhattan and Long Island for over 20 years. This is a common issue that patients seek out solutions for when they come to my practice. If you are significantly dissatisfied with the appearance, there are several ways to approach a situation. Often, it is ideal to look at the perspective of the eyelid and cheek area where the fillers were placed relative to the cheek volume. Very often, patients like yourself come in dissatisfied with fillers done elsewhere because the fillers were placed in the tear trough successfully without any additional volume correction in the cheek area. This means that there may be a value in enhancing some of the volume loss or lack of volume in the cheek to provide some continuity with the lower eyelid. In other situations, patients come in and want the materials dissolved so we can start fresh. In those situations, I use liberal amounts of an enzyme called hyaluronidase to dissolve the fillers so the patients can then come back and we can start from the beginning, and see if we can achieve what they wanted prior to coming to us. It’s important to have a clear discussion with the practitioners who performed this procedure to get an understanding if they feel they created what they set out to, or whether there was something they had not predicted, or what they thought were unexpected. This can often help you understand what their capabilities for correction. There could be opportunities to add more volume strategically, or to take away everything with an enzyme and start from scratch. I hope that was helpful. Thank you for your question.

Answer: Worse from filler Thanks for your question. I'm sorry you are not happy with the result. It sounds like you had hyaluronic acid filler placed. The gray/blue tone you describe may be from what's called the Tyndall effect. Based on your story, I would suggest you confirm what filler was used by this individual, and then have it reversed and addressed by a board certified doctor. Filler may take a couple weeks to settle, but not 3 months. Warm regards.

Answer: Tear trough fillers This is a common occurrence generally because the skin quality and laxity must be respected before injecting dermal fillers in the tear trough area. Please go and see a specialist in this area to dissolve the filler and place the filler correctly after a period of time.

Answer: Fixing Under Eyes Hello, Thank you for your question. The good thing about HA is that it can be reversed with vitrase. You may need to have filler injected down the road to correct the original problem, but you should be able to have this injection corrected. good luck!
