Sliding genioplasty & chin implant removal together or separate?

I was wondering if it is best to remove and replace a chin implant with a sliding genioplasty in the same procedure or remove the implant and wait 6 months to see how much the soft tissues shrink back down? A surgeon told me it’s best to remove & wait 6 months to see how the soft tissues go back down. His reason was that then he would know exactly how many mm to bring the chin forward, otherwise he said it could increase the changes of over/under projection if the tissues didn’t shrink back down.

Sliding genioplasty is an extreme surgery that I don’t recommend unless you have functional issues. To fix the cosmetic problem of a weak chin or projection, a chin implant would give you the correction you want. You must find an expert facial plastic surgeon to help you with this. Generally it is easiest for the patient to do both the implant removal and genioplasty at the same time to minimize scarring/contracture and to allow treatment of the irregularities on the bone from the implant (implants do 'sink' into the bone to varying degrees.). However, if your surgeon has a preference, it is best to go with his personal experience rather than someone else
